About Us
The Business Development and Partnership Office (BDPO) provides center-wide leadership for the development of strategic partnerships and complimentary work funded from outside of NASA which emphasizes NASA Glenn Research Center’s (GRC) research and technology competencies and contribute to achievement of the Center’s priority goals. BDPO has center leadership responsibility for all Agency-wide university affairs programs which contribute to providing next generation scientists and engineers required to realize NASA’s mission responsibilities for space exploration, science and aeronautics. In order to achieve this organizational mission, BDPO works closely with other Glenn Research Center organizational units in a partnership mode to assure GRC speaks with one voice and has a unified approach to partnerships, new business development, and university affairs.
Mission
GRC is committed to pursuing new business and partnership opportunities consistent with the following filters:
- Relevance to NASA missions
- Alignment with Center strategic directions
- Alignment with current NASA environment
- Alignment with Center capabilities (competencies and facilities)
- Non-interference with NASA Mission work assigned to Center
Glenn Research Center is a NASA Field center with the top priority to support the Agency’s four missions.

The Center’s major product lines of power, propulsion and communications are critical to achieving the Agency’s future objectives.

Partnerships
The Business Development and Partnership Office is working with active partners to discover new business opportunities. Glenn’s new business process for the development of new opportunities is designed to provide a method for working with our partners. Recent examples of partnership activities centered around Advanced Energy include:
- Northeast Ohio Partnership – partnership with regional groups to support the continuous development of Cleveland in the engineering and technologies of the future.
- Greater Cleveland Partnership (GCP)
- NorTech
- Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI)
- Team NEO
- Developed a role for GRC in University Clean Energy Alliance Ohio (UCEAO) (14 Ohio Universities)
A partnership has been developed with OAI and Cleveland to support the City’s Homeland Security needs. The following is a list of recent partnerships developed to align with Human Health strategic development.
- John Glenn Biomedical Engineering Consortium – Case Western Reserve University (CWRU), Cleveland Clinic Foundation (CCF), University Hospitals (UH), and the National Center for Exploration Research
- The Cleveland Clinic Center for Space Medicine
- Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB)
- BioEnterprise – a collaboration to advance the development and commercialization of life science-related technologies in Northeast Ohio
- National Institute of Health (NIH)
- North East Ohio Partnership – GRC, OAI, NorTech, Greater Cleveland Partnership (GCP) and Team NEO
GRC Competencies
The competencies required to produce technologies for these major product lines are well aligned with priority national objectives.
GRC will aggressively form partnerships and seek new business opportunities that fit the following criteria:
First, GRC competencies are required and the proposed effort will either maintain or strengthen those competencies.
Second, The business case is positive for both our partner and GRC.
